Description of Workshops:

Our 1-5 day workshops immerse our art students in the creative process while on vacation breaks or parent/teacher conferences or teacher professional days allowing them to explore various art techniques and mediums. Our Custom After-School Classes provide a personalized path for every young artist, with tailored instruction in weaving, sculpture, collage and drawing and painting. We are committed to an approach where students are empowered to develop their own projects, guided by three core principles:

  • Technique: Building strong foundational skills.

  • Creativity: Cultivating a unique artistic voice and style.

  • Growth Mindset: Fostering resilience and a love for the creative process.

Weaving & Spinning

  • Skills: Learn the foundational techniques of hand-spinning yarn, setting up a loom, creating various weaving patterns, and project-based sewing.

  • Process: Transform raw fiber into finished textiles by spinning, weaving, and sewing unique projects like bags, pillows, accessories, and tapestries.

  • Focus: Develop patience, precision, and the creative vision to take a project from initial concept to a complete, functional piece of art.

Drawing & Painting

  • Skills: Learn foundational art principles like composition, color theory, and perspective. Master key techniques including shading, highlighting, and glazing to create depth, dimension, and luminosity in their work.

  • Process: Bring concepts to life on paper or canvas by drawing and painting from observation, photographs, or imagination.

  • Focus: Cultivate a personal artistic style and a strong creative voice through projects tailored to your specific passions and goals.

How To Help Your Child Choose an Image and the Size and Shape Canvas:

To make sure your child has a great painting experience, we need a little help from you! Please send us the picture your child wants to paint and tell us what size and shape canvas they'd like to paint on at least 5 days before their first day. Please TEXT US THE CHOSEN IMAGE and CANVAS AT OUR CELL# 415-745-5301. This cell is also the best number to reach us for any communications.

What can your artist paint, draw, sculpt, weave, collage or make a multi media project of a combination of two to three mediums the above?

Kids can paint just about anything they can complete in 1 day or a five day camp! Think about any image that is a lovely image to give to a specail friend, teacher or family member. For weaving, they can choose what they want to weave when they arrive or send in a simple image they want to weave.

Choosing the Right Picture for a 1 day- workshop:

For a 1 day workshop, it's best to pick an image that is simple. Imagine breaking down the picture into simple shapes. For example, think about the Golden Gate Bridge. If you see more than 40 separate shapes (like each cable or tower), it might take longer than 1 day to paint. More shapes mean more painting. Less shapes mean less painting. Still each child will be working on a painting, weaving, or sculpture, or collage multi-media project that is challenging enough that it will take the entire day to create. If they want more of a challenge they can continue working on the project in a future CBAP class, workshop or camp.

Need Help Choosing? We're Here!

If you're not sure what kind of picture would work, just tell us your child's age, and we'll send you some examples that are perfect for a 1 day workshop or a 5-day camp.

several workshops, more complex pictures!

If your child is signed up for more than one day workshop of camp, they can choose a picture with up to 80 shapes. You don't have to count them exactly – just take a look and send us the image and we;’l let you know if it will work for your child’s age. The more weeks they're here, the more detailed and challenging the picture can be! Text us the iamge at 415-745-5301.

To make sure your child has the perfect canvas for their painting at camp, could you please tell us what size and shape they'd like by texting us at 415-745-5301? We need to know this at least five days before camp starts.

Here are the canvas options:

  • Rectangles: 9x12 inches

  • Square: 4 by 4 inches

  • Fun Shapes: clam or oyster shell

Also, it's super important that the picture your child wants to paint matches the canvas shape. So, if they choose a rectangular image to paint, they'll need to choose from the 3 different size a rectangular canvases we offer. We want to make sure their artwork looks just right for them.

Lunch & Recess:

Campers enjoy scheduled snack and lunch breaks. At 2:00 pm, there's an optional recess at Rochambeau Park, unless a child prefers to continue working on their gift indoors.

This ornament is an example of what a beginner can make out of a clam shell, acrylic paints, cut out image painted or collaged on and glossed with vanish. A hand made card will be made, too and the gift will be placed in a box and wrapped with solid colored paper of yellow, red, blue, green hot pink or orange. You walk out the door with a gift ready to give to a special friend or family member.

Her is a great example of a rhinestone crushed glass and beads on top of a playful painting of a Christmas tree.
